Richard A. Axelrod moved to Vermont in 1971, after practicing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He worked as an attorney for Vermont Legal Aid until 1973, when he founded the firm which ultimately became Axelrod & Adler. He focused his practice on trial work, and handled cases throughout the state and federal courts of Vermont. He has handled cases in the Vermont Supreme Court, Second and Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He was a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and served on the Board of Governors for the Vermont Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Axelrod devoted a significant amount of time to the American Civil Liberties Union, representing individuals who were battling one government agency or another. He served as President of the American Civil Liberties Union of Vermont, and was on the National Board of the American Civil Liberties Union from 1986-1994. Mr. Axelrod was partners with Steven Adler for over twenty years, until his retirement in 2004. He continues to reside in Lyndon, Vermont. He remains Of Counsel to Axelrod & Adler.
